Everything you need to know when planning your elopement

how to elope

We are dedicated to capturing your love story

NEWSFLASH:
Big weddings aren’t the only way to get married in 2024.

Remember, this is your day. Make this day about the two of you, without feeling pressured by others’ expectations. Focus on what makes your relationship unique and special. Incorporate elements that reflect your personalities and shared traditions to make your day meaningful and memorable.

Eloping also means you don't have to go to Vegas or a courthouse to say your vows. You can pick a beautiful location with mountains, cliffs, or the white textured Salt Flats. These stunning backdrops offer the perfect setting where you can have the moment and area to yourselves, making your day even more intimate and special.

In my opinion, finding a photographer whose work you truly love and someone you trust is step one. Look for someone whose photos resonate with you and evoke the emotions you want to remember from your day. Connecting with their style and vision is essential, as they’ll be capturing your most cherished moments.

Not only would I be HONORED to help you make this dream come to life, but I know that we can also make it exactly how you want. If you're ready to jump in, or have questions, then reach out below!

2. Think About Who to Invite

A common misconception about eloping is that you HAVE to do it alone. This isn't true! In most cases, you can have up to 15-20 people with you, so if you do want those special few to be witnesses, most places will allow small groups. However, if you want to do it alone, you can also do so with a witness (depending on the state) as well as an officiant.

Before you tie the knot, you'll want to set your appointment for your certificate.

How to Get a Marriage Certificate

To get a marriage certificate, you'll need to visit your local county clerk's office. Requirements can vary by state, but generally, you'll need to provide identification, pay a fee, and possibly provide proof of divorce or death if previously married. It's a good idea to check your specific state's requirements online before heading to the clerk's office.

For Utah:
In Utah, you can obtain a marriage license from any county clerk's office. Both parties must appear in person and provide valid identification. The fee varies by county, but it typically ranges from $40 to $50. There's no waiting period, so you can get married immediately after obtaining your license, which is valid for 30 days.

Finding an Officiant:

For Utah:
I have several officiant recommendations to ensure your ceremony is perfect. Feel free to reach out to me for personalized suggestions.

For Other States:
If you're getting married outside of Utah,
I recommend using Instagram to find the perfect officiant.    Search for California Officiant or Colorado Officiant to see their work and portfolios. This way, you can find someone who matches your style and vision for your special day.

3. Consider Season and Date

In most cases, you can have up to 15-20 people with you, so if you do want those special few to be witnesses, most places will allow small groups. However, if you want to do it alone, you can also do so with a witness (depending on the state) as well as an officiant.
